How to Choose your Brawlhalla Main - A Quick Guide by KaiserAnimations

Introduction

So you've downloaded Brawlhalla, played it for a bit and said to yourself "hey, I actually like this game!" That's great, and now you want to choose a main legend to play, but don't know who to choose. Well, thonk no more! I, KaiserAnimations, a professional Gold 4 Brawlhalla player who still can't reach platinum for some reason will teach you how to choose your Brawlhalla main! Welcome to Brawlhalla!

Choosing your main

Before we start, you need some gold. around 5400 should be fine to buy your first legend. You got some gold? Great, let's get started.

Choosing your main: Looks

Head into the training room lobby (Offline Play > Training). Hover your mouse/selection circle over all the legends and see if they look appealing to you. Some legends might be in shining armour, like Sir Roland or Orion, while others are anthropromorphic creatures, like Teros or Azoth. This really is just personal preference. Once you've narrowed down 36 legends to just a handful based on how they look, it's time to move on to the next step. Oh yeah, make sure to write down the names of the legends you chose to test out. You're going to be testing them out.

Choosing your main: Signatures

Choose one of the legends you chose to be a possible main. Now, choose a map in training mode. Wait for the game to load, then use your signature button (X for keyboard right handers, K for keyboard left handers, B/Y for controller). Do the same thing again, but this time inputting a side or down direction. Do you like the look of the signatures? Do you like the speed of the signatures? Do you like the legend's signature's power? If you don't, move onto the next. Cycle through your chosen legends until you've found the few that interest you signature-wise. Circle the legends you've chosen or cross out the legends that don't interest you (if you've written their names down of course.) Once you've done that, you're ready for the next step!

Choosing your main: Stats

Stats are a pretty important part of this game. It separates each legend from eachother. There are 4 stats: Strength, dexterity, speed and defense. I'll give a quick rundown on each of their meanings. Strength is how much damage a legend can deal per hit. Dexterity is how fast the legend can attack. Although this stat exists in the game, I actually don't exactly see how dexterity is utilized in the game, but it's there and I have to explain it. Speed is self explanatory. Lastly, defense is how much damage taken the legend can reduce (I think?) Alright, now that I'm done with that, examine your chosen legends. Each legend has 22 stat points they use. Decide which legends seem to fit your playstyle. If you like dishing out attacks at the speed of sound, you can choose someone with at least 5 dexterity. If you like to deal lots of damage in a short amount of time, legends with at least 6 strength can help you. If you like outrunning your opponents in a race for a weapon, legends with at least 6 speed are decent. If you like to survive even in red damage, legends with at least 6 defense will be able to do that. Or, if you like to have a balance of each stat, legends like Orion, Diana and Ragnir are great choices (listing these legends because they appear to have the most balanced stats). Narrowed down your legends? One more step!

Choosing your main: Weapons

There are currently 10 weapons in the game: sword, hammer, blasters, lance, spear, bow, katars, axe, gauntlets and cannon, cannon being the most recent weapon in the game. Each weapon has a unique playstyle. Every legend has a combination of 2 of the 10 weapons. Currently, there are 100 combinations of weapons that BMG can currently create, although only 36 have been created. Anyways, your chosen legends should have a completely different weapon combination from eachother. No two legends have the same weapon combination. Go into training mode and test out each of their weapons. You can get one by either accessing the training menu (functions for training mode) or by grabbing one of these.

Once you've gotten your weapon, use your light attacks on the bot. Do you like the speed the weapon attacks at? Do you like the reach of the weapon? Do you like the movement of the weapon? If so, find the legends you have on your main legend list that have one of the same weapons (e.g. Hattori, Sentinel, Koji, Orion, in this case you would pick Hattori and Koji because they both have the sword.). Once you've found those legends, it's time to move on to the last step.

Choosing your main: Finale

Alright, it's time to test out your legends! Choose one of your potential main legends and play around with them in training mode, considering all of the things in the previous steps. Once you're done with that legend, move on to the next. Repeat until you've found the legend you enjoy playing the most. It will take some time, switching between certain legends, before deciding if one is the most enjoyable to play. Now, it's time to hop into online games and see how you play against real people! Buy that legend with your 5400 gold and hop into free-for-all or experimental and just play. Don't be upset if you die a lot. It won't affect you until you start playing ranked. If you enjoy playing against others with that legend and want to keep playing with them, congratulations, you've found your main!

Conclusion

Now that you've found your main, You'll want to be playing and practising a lot with that legend. Some modes I recommend are experimental, ranked 1v1s (I'd stay away from that until you've played for a while, it's a nightmare for new players) and training mode.
